Top 10 Books I’ve Been Told I MUST Read

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme run by The Broke and the Bookish.

This week, the topic is “Top Ten Books People Have Been Telling You That You MUST Read”. I love seeing other readers and bloggers fangirling over their new -and old- favourites. I can’t help but be swept away with their enthusiasm, and I’ve found so many awesome books following their recommendations. These ten books are the tip of a very long list of books that I’ve been recommended to read more than once. I own, but haven’t read a couple of them. Hopefully I’ll love them and I’ll be able to join in on the fangirling soon!

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets // Anna and the French Kiss // The Bronze Horseman // Splintered // Scarlet

Every single person that I’ve come into contact with that has read the Harry Potter series has told me I need to read it ASAP. It’s taken a long time, but I’ve finally started it! Yeah, the addiction has begun!

I’m one of the rare bloggers that hasn’t read Anna and the French Kiss. I know the third book has just been released, and I’m going to have to listen to the hype and start this series soon. I’m almost positive I’ll love it.

So many people have told be The Bronze Horseman is one of the best romance stories they’ve ever read. So, why haven’t I listened and read it yet? The page count. It’s off putting! And this is coming from she who has the entire Harry Potter collection on her shelves, and isn’t intimidated to read every word, even though The Bronze Horseman is shorter… Yeah, my logic makes no sense! But in seriousness, this is the one out of the ten I’m most unsure of. I don’t want to invest that amount of time into the book, and end up being bored to tears!

I own a copy of both Scarlet and Splintered, and I cannot WAIT to read them both! Splintered wins the prettiest cover award in my eyes, and I have a pretty good idea that the story will match up to it.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone // Darkfever // Ten Tiny Breaths // Legend // Anna Dressed in Blood

Yeah, I’m a bit embarrassed to admit I haven’t read any of these! Darkfever and Daughter of Smoke and Bone keep cropping up so often, with so much praise and love attached to both. Ten Tiny Breaths is another one that has so much love around it.

I still love the dystopian genre, even if it’s become a bit over-populated as of late. Legend has been on the periphery of my reading list for so long, and I have to try and read this ASAP. Anna Dressed in Blood is another I have on my bookshelf, waiting to be read. It's kind of perfect with Halloween on the way...

What do you think? If you had to choose one to read right now, which one would it be? (I’m leaning toward Splintered or Scarlet!)

If you have a TTT post, feel free to leave a link so I can stop by! Happy Reading!

  1. I'm so glad I started the Harry Potter series! Only six books left... it'll take a while to get around to them all, but I don't feel like there is a rush to complete the series. One every month sounds good :D Anna and the French Kiss sounds like it'll be a really good book, hope we both like it! Thanks for stopping by, Rachel!

  2. I know you've already heard this a thousand times but you definitely have to read Harry Potter haha! Stephanie Perkins books make you feel happy so I'd recommend them too :) I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed Anna Dressed in Blood. It was very interesting and if you don't get too bothered about descriptive details then I highly recommend the duology!

And LOL! I definitely need to buy Daughter of Smoke and Bone soon! It's been moved up near the top of my to-buy list :D Thanks for stopping by Val!

  5. I do adore Harry Potter but I grew up with it which is probably why. I also really liked Splintered, Scarlet, The Bronze Horseman and Legend. The Lunar Chronicles seems to be getting better as the series progresses.l

    1. It's taken me so long to start the HP series - I remember when it was first released, but I never read it back then. I kind of regret not reading it then! Thanks for stopping by Chrissi :)

  6. I really loved Harry Potter, actually I have all the books. :) Anna and the French Kiss was probably the book that made me love contemporary romance so much, it's such a cute read. Scarlet was much more action packed than Cinder was, I loved both but Cress topped of both of them.
Daughter of Smoke & Bone is really great, not my favorite but still good. Darkfever is the best of the best, I didn't like fairy books but this was... I could barely wait for the books to be released. Ten Tiny Breaths was really great, again not my favorite but I did enjoy it. Anna Dressed in Blood will be amazing for Halloween I think, I have a book that I can put aside until then too. I hope you'll enjoy all of these.
I think you should choose Scarlet but be prepared that you'll most definitely want to start Cress, not because it's a cliffhanger or anything but you'll just want more of these amazing characters.
    Good luck with choosing.

    1. Glad to hear Anna and the French Kiss helped you love contemporary. I've been trying to read more contemp, but I end up falling back on my tried and trusted fantasy/paranormal reads!

Hearing Cress will be even better than Scarlet, that was better than Cinder.... Ohh I can't wait to read these books! I love when a series captures you so much that you just have to keep reading all the books. I think I'd better look into getting a copy of Cress sooner rather than later :D

      Thanks for stopping by, Veronika!

    1. Awww! Thanks Jessie! I really enjoyed Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, and I'm holding off reading HP and the Chamber of Secrets until I have the time to really enjoy it.

I really need to read Legend! So many people say it's amazing, I hope I love it too!

  8. I kind of wish I could read the Harry Potter series all in one go, with no breaks in between the books. After reading the first three or so fairly quickly, I had to wait for the others as they were released. You're lucky that you won't have to wait!

I'd recommend reading Daughter of Smoke & Bone over Splintered. I loved Daughter of Smoke & Bone... but I couldn't even get through Splintered. That was disappointing, because the cover is so pretty and seems to promise so much.

    1. Oh that's a very good point! I know that feeling so well with existing series I'm reading. It can be so frustrating waiting a year or more for the next book to come out.

Eep! I'll definitely keep my expectations for Splintered in check! Getting carried away with the hype of a popular book has come back to bite me in past. And I'll definitely try to read Daughter of Smoke and Bone ASAP!

  11. I love Splintered so I'd definitely vote for that! ;) Same with Scarlet and Anna and the French Kiss. Omg, I'm not even a real contemporary fan yet I LOVE Stephanie Perkins' writing. She's a genius and oh-so funny. I couldn't even get through the first chapter of Anna Dressed in Blood because I felt like it was ripping off the Supernatural TV show which I'm obsessively loyal to. lol So that was a no-goer for me. And I have Daughter of Smoke and Bone too!!! I'm reading it soon! Kind of excited to see what the fuss is about!
    Thanks for stopping by mine!

    1. Ohh I'm so glad you love Stephanie Perkins' books! I haven't read anything by her yet, but I'll definitely have to read Anna and the French Kiss ASAP. I'm definitely leaning more toward Splintered to read first, over Scarlet (I think it's all down to the cover!)

Eeek! I didn't realise Anna Dressed in Blood was similar to Supernatural! I'll definitely be keeping my expectations in check. And YAY, hope we both love Daughter of Smoke and Bone! Thanks for stopping by Cait!

  12. I'd go with Scarlet, and then DoSaB. Laini Taylor is one of my favorite authors, and both her trilogy and the Lunar Chronicles get better with each book!

  13. Anna and the French Kiss is a must read. Splintered and Scarlet are both on my TBR list as well.

I've read the first 6 books and plan on reading the final book in the Harry Potter series this year. You should definitely read the first book. Once you start the series, I'm sure you will be hooked.

  14. while there are more than 1 book on the list I think you should start, it was overshadowed by Harry Potter. It still surprises me just how many people haven't read the Harry Potter series.
I Hope you enjoy them :P

    1. LOL!! I definitely will chip away at the series over the next few months. I got a complete set of all seven books a few weeks back, and I'm trying to convince myself that rereading HP and the Philosopher's Stone right now will not be a good idea :D Thanks for stopping by Stacie!

  16. I just read Anna and the French Kiss this month. Everyone who recommended it was right. SO good! I loved Harry Potter but haven't read any of the others. Anna Dressed in Blood was a DNF but I'm thinking of trying again because it seems like a book I should like.

    1. I am loving Harry Potter! I'm so glad I started it. I'm slowly rereading the first book again, purposely taking my time, before I continue on with the second.

It's so hard to know which book to read first! I have Splintered and Scarlet, and I can't choose. I think I'll end up flipping a coin to see which wins, teehee :D
