Hi, and welcome to my blog! As you can probably guess, I’m Alma. I’m from Ireland, and I love all things bookish. I read, well, all kinds of fiction! I’ll read and blog about everything from the latest releases to my old favourites. Young Adult, New Adult or Adult, it doesn’t matter – as long as I bond with the characters and get swept away by an awesome story, I’m a happy reader.
Growing up, my mum was the reader in my family, and she encouraged me to read from a very young age – (What she kept telling me? “Once you have a book, you’re never alone." Wise words mum!) In Primary School, I read anything I could get my hands on: Nancy Drew, Babysitters Club, Hardy Boys, Sweet Valley High, Animorphs, The Mystery Kids and The Mystery Club and so many more that I’ve forgotten about. But, in my teen years, I didn’t read as much, what with school work and everything that goes along with that awkward time. When I did pick up a book, it was out of habit rather than a love of reading or discovering a new story.
This lack-lustre reading ‘habit’ continued for years, long after I left college and right up until I discovered one book that changed everything. Twilight. (I know! So totally cliché, but it’s true!) I became obsessed – I went from reading one book every two to three months, to reading the entire Twilight Saga in less than nine days. It made me realise what was missing from the books I was reading – a connection. Those four books also opened up the Fantasy genre to me again, and more notably, the world of Young Adult fiction, and I haven’t looked back since.
(Looking back now, I should have seen that my heart lay with the Fantasy, Paranormal and Sci-fi genres – my entire teenhood was consumed with Charmed, The X-Files, Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer! The clues were certainly there!)
Outside of bookish things…
- I’m a dog person and I own a Siberian Husky. (Or, more accurately, she owns me!)
- I’m a foodie, and I love all things yummy and bad for me.
- Music is another huge passion of mine, and I’m always listening to my old favourites.
- Football (or soccer) is another passion, and Chelsea FC is my team (*cough* obsession *cough*.)
- I love photography, and I’m trying to get better at it, I promise!
