Stacking the Shelves, #8

Stacking The Shelves is hosted by Tynga's Reviews and is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual.

As I mentioned in my Sunday Post last week, after a month of no book buying I’m free to hoard … *cough* sorry, BUY books again to my little hearts content! I learned my lesson, a ban will never happen again. I’ve gone months and months without buying one single book before, but the minute I decide “no books for 30 days,” naturally, this makes me want to buy ALL the books!

So, onto the haul!

All links below the images are to each books Goodreads page.

ARC’s for Review

Dark Triumph by Robin LaFevers

Add to Goodreads

Waterfall by Lauren Kate

Add to Goodreads

Thank you to both publishers!

Earlier this week, both Grave Mercy and Dark Triumph were on NetGalley as Read Now, and I jumped at the chance to read Dark Triumph! I read Grave Mercy a few weeks back, and I absolutely loved it and I can’t wait to read Sybella’s story. Waterfall is book two in the Teardrop series by Lauren Kate. While I didn’t love Teardrop, I’m curious to see how the story develops.

Giveaway Win

Spiders by Tom Hoyle
Thanks Pan Macmillan/Goodreads!

I entered a giveaway on Goodreads for Spiders, and I didn't think too much of it again – until the DHL van showed up outside the door a few days ago. How seasonally perfect is this cover?? Both Thirteen and Spiders look absolutely amazing in person. I read Thirteen at the beginning of the year and it’ll be interesting to see what happens to Adam and all the other characters.

Those blobs that look like tiny dots? Well, you guessed it! Yes, they're dozens and dozens of tiny spiders on the page edges! The top edge is the same. Erm, this probably would not be the best book to get someone as a gift if they are scared of spiders. Unless you didn't like the person... or they got you a horrible present in the past. Then it could be classed as payback... Not that I would encourage such behaviour or anything!

Books I Bought

I’d Tell You I Love You, But Then I’d Have To Kill You by Ally Carter // Wither by Lauren Destefano

All four of these books are second hands - yep, I can be economical when I try – so I don’t feel too guilty about the other *cough*13 books I ordered yesterday…

And yes, Splintered, Crown of Midnight, Heir of Fire and Boundless are amongst those 13 books… FINALLY!

Anyhoo! I’ve heard so many awesome things about the Gallagher Girls series, and I thought it’s about time I give it a chance. I don’t know if I’m the only one that does this, but, I usually have a mental list of “maybe” books. You know, those books that you’d read if you got them for a good deal, or on sale or second hand or something like that? Well, Wither was on my maybe list, and I found it for a little under €2.

The Dead Girls Dance by Rachel Caine // Midnight Alley by Rachel Caine

I read Glass Houses before the summer, and I’m not a hundred percent sure I want to commit to the entire series at this stage. As far as I know, The Morganville Vampire series is fourteen or fifteen books long with loads of novellas attached as well. With long series, I usually have a good idea around the book three in the series if I want to continue on. When I found The Dead Girls Dance and Midnight Alley second hand, I thought perfect opportunity!

That’s my haul... for now! What books did you get this week? Leave a link to your StS post in the comments if you like.

Have a great weekend, and Happy Reading!

  1. Spiders looks so good! I'm not sure that I'll read it as I wasn't that impressed by Thirteen. I hope you enjoy it though and the rest of your books.

    1. LOL, it looks even creepier in person, too! And, LOL, the colour really is like neon-pumpkin in the sunlight! I really hope I like it :D I don't mind spiders that much, but moths though... urrghhh! Hate those blighters! (Unless its a Morpheus moth, and he's found his way out of Splintered... they we'll make an exception!)

  7. I love the cover designs for Tom Hoyle's books. They so striking and bright.

Good haul this week! I knew all of the authors, surprisingly, but many of the titles were new to me. Time to add to the TBR I think! Thanks for sharing. Happy reading!

  8. Yep, they were! I couldn't believe it, and I couldn't pass by the opportunity to read Dark Triumph! I'm so sorry you didn't enjoy Grave Mercy :( It's one of my faves I've read this year so far, so I'm probably a little biased :) I love the cover for Spiders too! And the colours really are that vibrant in reality! Very striking books. Thanks for stopping by Kathleen, have a great weekend =)

  11. Wow, some hyped authors here! Ally Carter and Lauren Kate. I'm not sure about Lauren Kate because her first series was absolutely not my thing oops. However, Ally Carter is an author I've never read before. Maybe something I'll check out in the future.

Please check out my haul (and leave a comment?), here!

  13. I read Spiders last week, good in the way it's supposed to (shedding light on cults, etc) but I couldn't really connect to the characters, but definitely different. :) Happy reading!

    1. Ooh, that was my reaction when I read Thirteen... eek. I really hope it isn't more of the same. The story was such a great idea, but when the characters are a bit dull, it's hard to get past that. Thanks for stopping by Kirsty-Marie, have a great week!
