Stacking the Shelves and The Sunday Post, #11 - Blogging Blocks and Time Away

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer, and and Stacking The Shelves is hosted by Tynga's Reviews. This week I'm linking my recap post to both memes.

Recap - Time Away, Blogging-Blocks and a Return to Buying Books.

Hello my lovelies, I hope you had an amazing couple of weeks!

I took a blogging break and a much needed holiday two weeks ago. I love visiting Lough Derg, and staying in Mountshannon was so beautiful and peaceful. Plus, the weather was absolutely perfect for the end of September, and my dog loved exploring all the parks and walkways all along the lake. I had so many plans to get lots of reading done, but unfortunately that didn’t exactly happen… There was a music festival taking place in the village while I was there, and that ended up taking over a bit!

With taking a break, I expected to return with so much energy and have so many ideas, and I'd be able to churn out a string of posts. This hasn’t exactly happened either! I returned home last weekend to a grand total of one scheduled post, no completed books to write up a review for, and no inspiration to write anything. Yeah, my little idea of being recharged after my break back-fired spectacularly! I had a dismal total of two posts this week, and I’m finding it so hard to click back into that blogging mind frame I had before I stepped away. I look back at my old schedule and think 'How in the hell did I manage all of this!?' If anyone has any tips I can try to get my mind on track, I'd appreciate them all!

It’s October, I can buy all zee books!

Last month, I decided to try and not buy any books for the entire month of September. After struggling through 30 days of torture, I have come to the conclusion that this little experiment will never happen again! I have never wanted to get my hands on books as badly as I did last month. I have bought some ebooks already, and am trying to make up my mind which physical books I want to order this month. Soon, I shall FINALLY have my hands on Crown of Midnight and Unhinged. Soooooon…

eBooks I Bought

Not a Drop to Drink by Mindy McGinnis

Reborn by C.C. Hunter

I've wanted to read Not a Drop to Drink for so long, and I finally got my hands on it. I love dystopians and I really hope this one lives up to my expectations. Crane has been on my wishlist for a few months now, and I love the sound of the blurb and I'm hoping it'll be as creepy as I expect it to be. I don't know if I'll have time to read it this month, it seems like a good Halloween-ish read. I was asked to take part in Eternal by C.C. Hunter's blog tour next month... but I haven't read the first book yet. I really hope I love Reborn!

For Review

Loop by Karen Akins

Eternal by C.C. Hunter

I'm planning on reading Loop next, and I can't wait! I've had my eye on this book for so long, and I feel so excited and incredibly honoured that I was asked to take part in the blog tour. Unbreakable is a novella released recently that takes place between Reborn and Eternal, and then I also have Eternal to read this month. No pressure then...

Angelfall #3 – “End Of Days”, has a release date! But…

I am completely in love with Angelfall and World After, and I was so excited when I saw this tweet earlier today. The third book in The Penryn and the End of Days series seems to have an official release date!

But, then I saw that this will be the THIRD AND FINAL BOOK!

But… But… I thought there was going to be 5 books?! I was really looking forward to a long series with lots of Raffe and Penryn. I’m a little disappointed that it will revert to the seemingly new standard of YA trilogies. But on the flip side, I am sort of glad that the series doesn’t seem like it will be dragged out unnecessarily just to half-heartedly extend a series for the sake of adding more books - *cough* like the Southern Vampires/Sookie Stackhouse series *cough*

Soundtrack for the Week

With autumn really beginning to settle in this week, I've chosen Harvest by Opeth.

Or, watch a live version I love on YouTube ;)

Have a great weekend, and Happy Reading!

    1. I'm really looking forward to reading Not a Drop to Drink, it sounds so amazing! Glad you loved it :D I hope I can get around to both it and Crane this month, but I have a lot of books I need to read first *fingers crossed* it works out!

  2. Awesome haul of books. I sometimes think that trilogies are good, because then you don't have to wait for the next book. Great haul of books.

    1. Don't get me wrong, I usually really enjoy trilogies - but it's a little weird that they are so common these days! I was expecting the Angelfall series to be five books long, so it's a shock that it's shrunk to three :) Thanks for stopping by Grace, have a great weekend!

    1. Thanks Jessica! I love Susan Ee's books, I just wish the series was going to be longer :D Oh well, I really hope End of Days is just as amazing as the first two :D

  4. I'm kind of sad about Susan Ee's series too! Maybe the publishers pulled the pin on her or something?? Or she just doesn't want to write anymore?? *sobs* I'll still enjoy the last book, though, I'm positive!! Good for you, though for going a month without book buying! I'm the same with the library. I get SUCH itchy fingers if I don't get in there and borrow books at least once a week, heeh.
Thanks for stopping by @ Notebook Sisters!

    1. I have no idea! I remember reading somewhere that she wasn't sure where the 5 books on Goodreads came from, and that the series would end when it was naturally ready... so I guess this is it. *Hands tissues, and sobs on shoulder* I NEED more Raffe and Penryn! I really hope it'll be even better than the first two, and the series will end on a huge high! And LOL! I'm usually not so bad with buying books, but the minute the word "can't" comes up, then that's exactly what I want to do :D (I'll never learn!)

  5. Bwahaha..I feel the same way about book buying bans..never again! It is funny but when I did that, the following months I went a tad crazy. It is like going without coffee...completely insane.. so go buy all ze books! I feel you on the break. While I took one to prepare for the wedding..i need one to catch up on reading and writing posts.

    1. Hahaha! I've got about twenty books in mind that I really want to buy... but I know that'll be WAY over my budget, so I have to trim quite a few off that list! Thank goodness for second hand books, so hopefully I'll be able to find a few deals :D Thanks for stopping by Kimba, have a great week!

  8. I finally broke down and bought Not A Drop To drink. I couldn't resist it any longer. LOL
Sounds like you had a lovely time away. It's usually hard for me to get back into blogging after a break. I'd suggest not worrying about it too much. You'll read a great book and be bursting to talk about it and then you'll be back in the swing of things.

    1. Yay! That book has been tempting me for so long :D Hope we both love it! I had a brilliant time away, and it was just what I needed in honesty. Goes to show you can't plan on what happens though - I had five books left out to read for the week as I thought I'd get loads of reading time, but it didn't turn out that way at all! Oh well, it was still fantastic :D Thanks for stopping by, Laura, have a great week!

  9. Going a whole month without buying a book is pretty good- I buy way too many and that would be tough! I've wanted to read Not a Drop too for a while, so I hope it's a good one.

    1. I'm really glad I tried it - but it'll never happen again, teehee! The minute "can't" comes into any situation I get this terrible urge to do just that :D My bank balance will suffer this month though! Thanks for stopping by, Greg, have a great week!

  12. It's so hard not to buy books all the time!! Good job for sticking through your ban!!

I'm so glad the third book has a publishing date! I'm also sad it's the last book but happy we don't have to keep waiting anymore haha :)

    1. Thanks Eileen! It was so incredibly tempting though! It's typical, the one time I choose not to buy anything, I read the first book in two series that I fall head-over-heels for and I end up pining away for the next books in the series! LOL, I'm glad I did it, but never again :D

So true about not having to wait anymore, it's been so long since World After was released. Hopefully End of Days will be phenomenal and the series will end on a huge high *fingers crossed*

  13. It's funny how when you take a break it takes a while to get back into it, haha. BUT YES. GET CROWN OF MIDNIGHT AND UNHINGED SOON. SO MUCH AWESOMENESS. I still have to pick up Not A Drop to Drink, heard so many good things! Hope you enjoy it! :) Ahhh, I haven't even read Angelfall yet, oops. Will have to soon. :)

    1. I may have just bought Unhinged - but now the wait time begins until The Book Depository sends it to me! I can be patient... I think? I can't WAIT until it shows up! Crown of Midnight and the others will be next :D And yes, READ ANGELFALL!! Oh my goodness, it's easily the best book I have ever read involving angels. Definitely read it ASAP!

  14. I've also been in a bit of a rut lately too with my posts and I think the quality has been lacking because of it. I would have suggested taking a break as you have but it's not working obviously so maybe post about something else on the blog, change it up for a little while and see if that gets the juices flowing again. That's what I'm trying to see if it helps. Hope you're having a great week, thanks for stopping by my blog.

    1. It's a little strange to be saying, I kind of feel like I didn't have a break away from the blog! I think I'm going to try and plug away at getting posts done in advance for a week or so, and then try and take a day off each week. Great idea about changing up different posts, and moving away from just bookish things. Thanks for stopping by Sharon!

  15. Oh that's too bad about the Susan Ee series. Hopefully the final book will be mind blowing to make up for it though! Good luck getting back in the blogging groove. I do better if I set a time period every day - like every day I will work on this for 45 minutes - but I tend to be pretty regimented schedule wise. Have a great week!
