Weekly Wrap-Up (StS and SP) - Feb 1-7

I’m linking up to both Stacking the Shelves and The Sunday Post memes this weekend.

How fast is this year going?! I can’t believe its February already! I’ve finally managed to get out and about without 1) freezing my butt off, or 2) almost falling on my butt thanks to lovely ice everywhere. It makes a nice change! I don’t expect it to last long, but it's nice to see the sun for a little while!

In bookish news…

Did you see it, did you see it, did you see it?!

END OF DAYS has a cover!

What do you think of it?

Entertainment Weekly hosted the cover reveal for End of Days yesterday, and I love it! I’m so glad all three books will have matching covers! I love the gold, too. I was expecting red as that was the place-holder cover on Goodreads… but anyway, I cannot WAIT to read End of Days :D It’s one of my six most anticipated releases of 2015, and I need more Penryn and Raffe in my life!

What I Read This Week

It took most of the week to get through it – yeah, I’m not the fastest reader in the world, unfortunately – but I finally finished Gone, and really enjoyed it. I wish I'd read the series sooner though, it's really good!

I'm currently reading Melt, and oh WOW, it’s an intense read! I finished Part 1 before I began writing this post, and I love it so far. I love the distinct differences in POV between Josh and Dorothy, and I love the way the formatting is done. I have this horrible feeling something bad is going to happen, though! I don’t want anything bad to happen! I just want to do two things: a) reach into the pages and give Josh a hug, and b) ELIMINATE HIS FATHER! I haven't really figured out Dorothy yet, but she seems really calm and collected, certainly in comparison with Josh. It'll be interesting to see what happens!

Books I Bought

I’ve been really good at not buying books lately! I bought a couple of Kindles, but I haven’t bought any physical books since October last year, with the exception of pre-ordering Ensnared back in November… so I had a pretty good idea this day would arrive sooner rather than later... I went a bit mad on Amazon and The Book Depository.

These are the only arrivals so far:

The Ring and the Crown by Melissa De La Cruz
All Our Yesterdays by Cristin Terrill
Say Her Name by James Dawson

I cannot WAIT to read Say Her Name! I’ve been looking for a really creepy/scary book for a long time and nothing I’ve read has fully fit the bill and actually been… scary! But! Bloody Mary? Yes, now that should be scary :D

This is a picture of the synopsis on the back cover…

Mwahahaha! It sounds super creepy, and I can’t WAIT to read it!

Books For Review

Firstly, HUGE thank you to each publisher for these beauties!

Cleo by Lucy Coats – Cleopatra? The Cleopatra, Cleopatra? As a teenager?? Yep, I’ve gotta read it!

The Infinite by Lori M. Lee – I bought Gates of Thread and Stone last weekend, but it hasn’t arrived yet. When I saw book two on Netgally, I jumped at the chance to read it!

I think we’ve all requested a book where we didn’t think we stood a chance to get it. I know I have, this was one of those instances, actually! I saw Bloomsbury UK add a certain book to NG a little while ago, and I took a chance and requested it. I knew there was no chance on this EARTH that I’d ever get accepted, and I was a zillion percent positive I’d get a rejection email.

You can imagine my shock and excitement when I logged into Netgalley and I saw this beauty sitting there.

*Hyperventilates* I’m really failing to compute! I wasn’t expecting this… I don’t even know… I can’t even… AAAHHHHHHH!!! Thank you SO MUCH Bloomsbury!!

  1. I had the opposite response to Gone...I had it on my shelf for a couple of years, saving it for a rainy day...and when I eventually got to read it, I didn't like it! I HATE it when that happens! Still, we can't love everything we read(thankfully). I enjoyed All Our Yesterdays a lot more. It was a bit different from the usual YA dystopia/SF. Hope you enjoy all your books!

  2. Love your book photos! And Say Her Name looks so good! I haven't actually read anything by this author yet but I've seen plenty of good reviews for his last two books. So hopefully I'll try one soon.
And yes, it was fab to get some sunny days this week, it cheered me right up! I love bright days :)

  5. Congrats on getting the books you wanted!! When I saw ACOTAR I so nearly requested it but then realised I had absolutely no time to review it so I had to resist :( Your other books look really good! All Our Yesterdays has been on my TBR list for a while and I've heard awesome things about it. And the cover for End of Days is GORGEOUS!!! I haven't read book two yet but I honestly can't stop looking at the new cover :D

Hope you have a lovely week and enjoy ACOTAR ;)

  6. Ahh! Envy over ACOTAR!!! Netgalley still hasn't offered this one up for requesting/downloading! I have auto approve for this publisher and I am LOSING MY MIND!!! Dying to read this one! Why won't they let me download?! I finally got auto approval for them last year and now they deny me access to this title!! I'm LOSING MY MIND!! (and it took me three times to type that because I am so far gone! LOL!)

    Happy Reading!

My STS will be up tomorrow, so be sure to stop by then!

    Have a GREAT day!

  7. Is End of Days and Angelfall book? I just bought the first one based on all the recommendations last week! I hope it's amazing as everyone says! I haven't even heard of any of your new purchases... Can I ask why people buy from Book Depository over Amazon? Is it cheaper? I hope you love all of your new reads! :)

    Here's my Weekly Recap!

    1. YES it is! It's the last book *sobs* I don't want the series to end!

Between TBD and Amazon... it depends what I'm buying. If I can get the books I want second hand or really cheap, I use Amazon, but if I can only get new ones, then I'll usually use TBD :) For me, I have to shop on Amazon.co.uk, and use Stirling. The exchange rated to Euro can be pretty bad sometimes, so I try to take it into account. With TBD, I can shop in Euro's, so it makes things easier for me. Plus, on TBD, it's free shipping, so that's always a HUGE bonus!

  8. Nice haul, Alma! Say Her Name sounds deliciously creepy, I need to check that one out. You're right, End of Days cover is gorgeous. I'm behind on this series, I need to catch up, since I loved the first book in the series.
Enjoy your new books, have a fantastic week and happy reading :)

  9. Congrats on getting ACoTaR. It was one that I was very excited to get as well. I haven't read any of her previous books so I will be going into this one on a clean slate. I noticed that you're reading it already. How are you liking it?

    1. Thanks Kristin! I LOVED it! It's just as good, if not a little better than her Throne of Glass series. I know it's a bit early, but I think ACoTaR will be my favourite book of 2015. It's phenomenal!

  13. I loved All Our Yesterdays, hope you do as well. Haven't heard of Melt, but it looks good. I also need to get ahold of the sequel to Angelfall before I read End of Days. But I'm glad there is a cover! Say her Name looks like another book I read recently about Bloody Mary that was really good, but I'll have to check this out out as well! Great haul, thanks for stopping by my post earlier, and I hope you have a great week!

  17. EEK! All Our Yesterdays!! I've heard so many fantastic thngs about that one :) I have it on audiobook but I actually forgot about it until just this moment haha. Say Her Name is WAYYYYY too scary for me. Honestly, that has been a fear since childhood (however irrational it may be) so I would never be able to read a book about it, I'd never sleep haha. I'm sure it will be an excellent read though, and delightfully terrifying!

Congrats on getting A Court of Thorn and Roses!!!! That's amazing :) I'm very excited to read it as well and have been staying away from all the early reviews and thoughts lol.

I hope you enjoy all your books and especially ACOTAR!!!! Happy Reading!!
