Rook by Sharon Cameron book cover

Who needs a wedding ring when you can pick up a sword? A remarkable and utterly inventive novel from Sharon Cameron, author of THE DARK UNWINDING, which USA TODAY called "spellbindingly imaginative."

History has a way of repeating itself. In the Sunken City that was once Paris, all who oppose the new revolution are being put to the blade. Except for those who disappear from their prison cells, a red-tipped rook feather left in their place. Is the mysterious Red Rook a savior of the innocent or a criminal?

Meanwhile, across the sea in the Commonwealth, Sophia Bellamy's arranged marriage to the wealthy René Hasard is the last chance to save her family from ruin. But when the search for the Red Rook comes straight to her doorstep, Sophia discovers that her fiancé is not all he seems. Which is only fair, because neither is she.

As the Red Rook grows bolder and the stakes grow higher, Sophia and René find themselves locked in a tantalizing game of cat and mouse.

Daring intrigue, delicious romance, and spine-tingling suspense fill the pages of this extraordinary tale from award-winning author Sharon Cameron.

First thing, seeing the Eiffel Tower and what kinda looks like Paris as rubble on a book cover caught my eye straight away. Then I read the blurb, and I was sold instantly! I mean once I read the words “Who needs a wedding ring when you can pick up a sword?”… Yep, that about does it – NEED!! Pretty please be amazing!

What do you think? And what books are you waiting on this week?

  1. Great choice. This book is on my TBR, it sounds really intriguing. It sounds like a unique spin on dystopian fiction and I love the sounds of the mystery in the book.

  2. Oh wow, that summary definitely has me sold! Great pick. :) And I hope you're also enjoying Heir of Fire! I love all the new characters we've gotten so far. I know I'm going to be waiting super impatiently for the next three books!! So excited to be getting another series from her at the beginning of next year though!

    1. I love Heir of Fire so far! I like all the new characters, but... I'm a little unsure of Rowan at the minute! I don't know what to make of him, but I AM curious though... :D At the same time, I'm so glad some of the old, familiar characters are still around! (I'm still holding out hope for a certain Captain ;)) And I'm so excited about A Court of Thorns and Roses! I can't wait to read it, and it'll be perfect to bridge the gap until #4 is released in the Throne of Glass series :D LOL, I'll probably get just as obsessed over her new series, and I'll end up with double the book withdrawal! Thanks for stopping by, Alysia, hope you love the rest of Heir of Fire!

  8. This book caught my eye recently because the cover is so gorgeous. I've read the Dark Unwinding books and thought they were pretty good. The blurb seals the deal - on the TBR it goes.
