Teaser Tuesday: Crane by Stacey Rourke

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along!

My Teaser: Crane by Stacey Rourke

“Dark grows near, sense the fear,” a voice, possessing the deep rasp of death, croaked in the sing-song tempo of a nursery rhyme. “Cloak of night, brings Horseman’s plight. His pricy toll, will be a soul. Run and hide, before his ride. Or the dead –" The face of a haggard old woman peeked around the back of the chair, her mouth open in a wide, toothless grin. A shock of white hair framed her ghastly face, falling to gaunt shoulders in wiry wisps. “– Shall claim ye head.”

The Horseman is unending,
his presence shan’t lessen.
If you break the curse,
you become the legend.

Washington Irving and Rip Van Winkle had no choice but to cover up the deadly truth behind Ichabod Crane’s disappearance. Centuries later, a Crane returns to Sleepy Hollow awakening macabre secrets once believed to be buried deep.

What if the monster that spawned the legend lived within you?

Now, Ireland Crane, reeling from a break-up and seeking a fresh start, must rely on the newly awakened Rip Van Winkle to discover the key to channeling the darkness swirling within her. Bodies are piling high and Ireland is the only one that can save Sleepy Hollow by embracing her own damning curse.

But is anyone truly safe when the Horseman rides?

With Halloween around the corner, I decided to go with a slightly creepier quote this week.

What do you think? Leave a link to your post so I can stop by if you like, or tell us in the comments.

  4. It's definitely creepy, so excellent pick there! (Especially that cover, yikes!) I'm really interested in the way these two stories/legends have been joined. That is what is really drawing me into the story. That and I love the main character's name!
