11 Book Series I'll (Probably) Abandon

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme run by The Broke and the Bookish.

The topic this week is Ten Bookish Things I Want to Quit Or Have Quit, and I’m sharing 10 book series I’ve all but abandoned. I don’t like saying I’ll never do something… usually when I do it’ll come back and bite me in the arse! But, as of right now, I don’t think I’ll continue on with any of these series. If there are any you think I should continue, let me know!

The Matched Trilogy by Ally Condie The Black Dagger Brotherhood Series by J.R. Ward

The Matched Trilogy by Ally Condie – I could be convinced to try the second book, but I’ve seen a lot of hate for the series and that kinda scares me! Maybe one day...?

The Black Dagger Brotherhood Series by J.R. Ward – Ok, there will be a teeny little exception to this… If Zsadist gets another book - and it only has Zsadist, Bella and Nalla involved - then I'll reconsider!

The Divergent Trilogy by Veronica Roth – I had originally intended to finish the trilogy, despite not enjoying Insurgent that much. I’ve mentioned this before, but I was spoiled for the ending of Allegiant by an author on Twitter, and it completely put me off reading the final book.

The Iron Fey Series by Julie Kagawa Carrier of the Mark by Leigh Fallon The Midnight Breed Series by Lara Adrian

The Iron Fey Series by Julie Kagawa – I really liked the first book, but the second changed my opinion completely. I'm 99.999% sure I won't continue this series, and it would take an awfully good argument to make me change my mind!

Carrier of the Mark Trilogy by Leigh Fallon – I might dislike some books along the way, but there are only a few I absolutely hate, and Carrier of the Mark is one of the few. It’s a blatant Twilight copy-cat, and it didn’t sit very well with me! Needless to say, I won’t be continuing with the sequel.

The Midnight Breed Series by Lara Adrian – I really enjoyed the first book, but the second was a load of meh. I have no interest in continuing, to be honest.

Anna Dressed in Blood Duology by Kandare Blake The Soul Screamers Series by Rachel Vincent The Immortals Series by Alyson Noel

Anna Dressed in Blood Duology by Kandare Blake – You know my little addiction to scary stories? Well, Anna Dressed in Blood was a complete let down – it was NOT scary. Despite the cover of the second book being completely awesome, I don’t think I’ll be reading it.

The Soul Screamers Series by Rachel Vincent – I’m 50 / 50 on this one. I could be persuaded to try the second book, and then make up my mind. Maybe? Ooh, I don’t know!

The Immortals Series by Alyson Noel – It’s been a long time since I read the first book in the series, and in honesty, I don’t remember much about it. That’s never a good sign, is it?

The Delirium Trilogy by Lauren Oliver Between the Lines Series by Tammara Webber

The Delirium Trilogy by Lauren Oliver – Delirium and I didn’t get along very well. In fact, I hated it. Not much of a surprise, but I won’t be continuing the series.

Between the Lines Series by Tammara Webber – I read the first book in this series shortly after falling in love with Easy, and it didn’t capture me in the same way at all. I liked the book, but there wasn’t anything to make me eager to continue on with the story.

Phew, that’s a lot of series! Are there any on my list you think I should give a second chance to? Thanks for stopping by, and Happy Reading!

  1. I read the Matched trilogy and, honestly, the first is the best book. Book 2 was okay but I really didn't like book 3 that much at all.
I've read Divergent but I don't think I'll continue that series either.
After Evermore I decided I wouldn't be reading the rest of that series as well. I finished the book but I just couldn't stand it.
    Thanks for sharing your list!

    1. Yeah, I think it's probably best if I don't continue on with the Matched trilogy. It's so frustrating when the last book in a series is a huge let down! Even if I've loved the previous books, I find not loving the last book ends up tainting my opinion of the entire series. Thanks for stopping by, Amanda!

  2. Your honest list makes me rethink many books that I was planning on reading. *thumbs up*

  3. I thought I was the only person who didn't really care for the Divergent trio. Guess I'm not alone.

    1. Oh you're definitely not alone! I really enjoyed the first book, but Insurgent was a huge let down. Thanks for stopping by!

  4. I didn't finish Matched either, dropped it around 30 pages in. It was boring.

I loved books one and two of Divergent, hated the third book, sold my set of books to a book store for store credit. Then I realized how dull the story was.

I recently finished the Iron Fey series, just read the fourth book that's written from Ash's POV. That was the best book in the series. I was on the fence for the other three books. They were readable, but Meghan is such a boring character I couldn't give them more than 3 stars. The Iron Knight is worth reading... but you'll have to weigh how much you care about the characters against reading that third book which was pretty boring.

I really enjoyed Anna Dressed in Blood, but the sequel was pretty terrible in my opinion. Most of the book was Cas whining about wanting to see Anna again.

Delirium is the only good book in the series. The second book was just awful in my opinion. It was written in alternating time lines. One chapter was the present, the next was set months in the past. I read the first 5 chapters, skipped to the last 5 chapters and missed nothing in the story. Hated it, and I stupidly finished the series the third book is only marginally better than the second book.

    1. Oooh, that's good to know about the sequel to Anna Dressed in Blood. I'm glad I won't miss much! If the second book was super scary, I'd reconsider, but if it's just Cas being a pain, then I don't feel too guilty :)

With the Iron Fey series, the only character I really liked was Puck... and considering the last book is written in Ash's POV, it's not very appealing if I'm honest! Meghan in the first book was alright, but she was a complete pain in the read in the second book.

Thanks for stopping by, Marie, and for all your advice :D

    2. There's a lot of Puck in the fourth book, if that helps at all. I think he has his own Novella, but it might not be worth it.

  5. SOUL SCREAMERS!!!!! Out of all the series, I strongly urge you to give this a second go! This series was INTENSE! And so incredibly awesome! There are so many different themes and such among the books. And oh wow! The characters!!! Eep!!

I don't know if I was on twitter at the time of Allegiant, but I know I pretty much ignored every blog post that showed up in my feed that was Allegiant related. I was not going to be spoiled for that one when I heard spoilers were being leaked. It's a shame too. I mean, I know the majority of spoiler leakers were outraged and they were likely ranting...IDK...like I said, I avoided all that.

Seeing Iron Fey a bit. And with that one, I just chalk it up to every series not being for everyone! I personally loved it! But DO give Soul Screamers a second chance! The books get really really good the further along they go!!

    Here's my Tuesday Post

    1. Oooh, you're really beginning to convince me to give the Soul Screamers series another shot! I'll see if I can get my hands on the second book as soon as I can, and see how I like it :D If the characters are awesome, I want to continue!

I was so pissed about the Allegiant spoiler! It was just casually mentioned at the end of a random tweet about ANOTHER book, and I was like.... SERIOUSLY?! You had to say THAT!! Urgh, the hazards of twitter!

Thanks for stopping by, Jessica, and I'll definitely try the next book in the Soul Screamers series :D

  7. Hahahha the second book of the Iron Fey really irked me, but I ended up reading the third book as well, bleh. Also I didn't mind Delirium, but I just don't care enough to read the rest of the series! I haven't read anything else on your list, but I think if you liked Matched, then you should continue on! I mean, you should form your own opinion, right?

  8. I read Delirium, hated it. Straight after that I read Matched and it made me give up on the Dystopian genre... I still haven't gone back! And if they're saying the next books in those series' are even worse... run! ;] I am up to book 11 in the Black Dagger Brotherhood... but I read them more for the smut [we all need a bit of smut in our lives sometimes], than anything else. It is so horrible when a book gets spoilt, and I always want to wack those people over the head with a book then, I enjoyed Allegiant, but if you know the ending, then well most of it is just spoilt. Haha, I say leave all of these series' and just go find some new good ones. :D

  9. I still have to read Allegiant, I've been putting it off for over a year because I was spoiled for it, but I will read it eventually! I can't leave series unfinished! I think I'm going to try and read it before the movie comes out.
