‘Bout This Blogger Tag

One of my favourite bloggers, Cait @ Notebook Sisters, made the big switch from Blogger to Wordpress a few weeks ago. She also took the chance to change her blog name to Paper Fury, and in celebration of her newly revamped blog of awesomness, she created this equally awesome tag! And I love tags! So, naturally, I have to take part :)

1. Why did you start blogging?

I had thought about starting a blog for a little while, but I didn’t take the idea very seriously. I mean, I also want to travel the world, climb Kilimanjaro, visit the Antarctic, and maybe see a tiger in the wilds, but I know all these things most likely won’t happen.

And then one day, I sat down and created a blog. It was all very spur of the moment!

I don’t really know what was running through my head at the time, in honesty. I think the whole process sort of went like… ‘I like books. I like talking about books… Let’s blog!’

Shame I didn’t think that I might actually need to learn HOW to blog, and to have some back up posts instead of posting four reviews in the one day!

2. What's the story behind your blog's name?

I wish I had some awesome story about my blog name! It’s a sad truth, but I’m terrible at naming things.

At that same eureka moment that I decided to start a blog, I was listening to Journey Through Pressure by Katatonia. And things just sort of clicked. Being honest, Journey Through Fiction was a placeholder name until I thought of something better. Unfortunately, I must be all out of eureka moments as I haven’t been able to come up with anything else that I like. To make it harder, the name has kinda grown on me!

3. How many designs have you been through since you started blogging?

This is the second design I’ve had, and it’s not terribly different to my first design. True story: I’ve had a ‘RE-DESIGN BLOG’ task (yes, it’s in Caps, too!) on my Google calendar for the past five months, and I keep putting it off until tomorrow… or the day after… or how about next weekend? Rinse and repeat fifty times.

Now you can see that I totally deserve my Master Procrastinator crown.

I’d love to be able to do some design work myself, but I’m kind of afraid of tinkering around too much and then breaking the blog!

4. Have you ever switched blog platforms? What made you move? If you haven't ever changed... why?

I’m barely competent with Blogger… I can only imagine the chaos that would happen if I moved to WordPress!

Eventually, I’d probably have to make the move. I really doubt I’d be able to do it myself, so I’d need to hire someone to do it. The deciding factor comes down to the bank balance. Money is extremely tight, so all of this is way, way, WAY off in the future!

5. How long does it take you to write a post? What's your postly process like?

Remember how I said I was a Master Procrastinator? Well, the same principle applies to writing posts. I sit down to write a review, tap out a few lines, and clearly the song I’m listening to is not adequate for my mood… so I skip over to Spotify. Ten minutes later, I come back and tap out another few sentences. Then shuffle produces one of my favourite songs, and I just HAVE to watch the video on YouTube… An hour later, I’ve managed to write two paragraphs. I totally deserve a reward for my hard work! Three hours of gaming later, and what the heck is that document doing open??

I really do treasure those days when I wake up in a writing mood! The first person that interrupts me would probably get yelled at.

6. Have you ever been super nervous about a post? Why? What was it?

I don’t really get nervous, necessarily, but the posts I would get a bit concerned about are lower star and negative reviews. You never know what can of worms will be opened!

7. Do you have a blogging schedule?

HA! I wish! I try to be organised, but it never works. I do try to post two reviews a week, but beyond that, anything goes! I’d love to be more organised and have a month or two scheduled in advance, but it doesn’t seem to be in my nature, unfortunately.

8. Do you tell people In-Real-Life about your blog? Their reactions?

I don’t really go out of my way to tell people about the blog, but I don’t hide it either. I guess it depends if the conversation comes up, then I’ll mention it. When I do mention it, I usually get a blank stare as a reward!

9. Top ten blogs you read/comment on the most.

Oh my gosh, only ten?! Aargh, ok, here we go!

Paper Fury
Reviews from a Bookworm
Cornerfolds
Between My Lines
The Innocent Smiley
Mo_Books
Cuddlebuggery
(un)Conventional Book Views
StudioReads
Parajunkee's View

And SO MANY more!

10. If you could change/improve things about your blog, what would they be?

Everything! If I had to choose one thing to tackle right now, it would be the blog design. I’m not uber happy with it, and I maybe if I have extra time over Christmas or early in the New Year I’ll change a few things.

Thanks for reading!

And don’t forget to stop by and say 'Hi' to Cait over at Paper Fury!

  1. I'm the same! I don't tell people about my blog unless the topic comes up but really when will it ever come up?! Only my family and a couple of my close friends know since we regularly talk about updates in our lives.

    1. Yep, exactly! Blogging isn't an easy topic to casually drop into a conversation! :D

  2. Oh it was SO awesome reading all the behind-the-scenes things about your blog!! I LOVE YOUR BLOG NAME! It makes perfect sense for a book blogger, right?! And I hear ya with starting to blog without knowing how. Me too. >_< I only posted once a day, but I sure had no idea how to engage an audience and I cringe looking back at my archives lol
Awww, I'm totally honoured to be on your favourite blogs list!! *tackle hugs you*
Thanks for doing the tag and spreading the word!! CAKE ALL ROUND. XD

    1. Awww, thanks Cait! I was very unsure of the name for quite a while, but it's begun to grow on me over the past few months. Ooh gosh, I'm scared to go back an look at my posts from the first few months of blogging! I need to update my review archive, as I've completely let it slide over the past few months and change all my graphics to match my new design... so that'll be traumatic!

And I really, genuinely LOVE Paper Fury! You really have the perfect balance of fun with lots of bookishness, and I love the way you're so natural and all your personality comes across in all your posts :D

  3. YOU CAN TACKLE THE BLOG DESIGN YOU CAN DO IT. Though I do have to admit that it is kind of hard with all the coding. The graphics are one thing, but the CODING. Man I had to google a ton of stuff before I knew what I was doing (and my design is super simple hahaha).

ANYWAYS THANKS FOR THAT SHOUT OUT THERE! I love commenting on your blog too muhahahha.

A spur in the moment is nice, right? Hahah posting 4 times a day? Wut. How did you even do that. HEY YOU MAY GO TO ANTARCTICA ONE DAY AND MEET A POLAR BEAR, you never know.

    1. Over Christmas I DID try a new blog design! I'll be slowly changing things... so exciting times on the way :D It was a lot more fun (and easier) than I thought it was going to be. I really hope everyone likes it... I kinda do :) AND YES!! Google really has become my new BFF! I'd have been completely LOST without it!

And LOL! I have NO IDEA what I was thinking when I posted 4 posts in the one day! I put it down to first week blog jitters, hahahaha! I ended up posting straight after I was finished writing - scheduling in advance never even occurred to me. Oooh those naive little baby blogger days. (So embarrasing... hahaha!)

  4. I can't believe I made your list of fav blogs, that's made me ridiculously happy! I feel like such a newbie when it comes to blogging, still so unsure of everything and whether what I do is any good. So that's made me really happy. THANK YOU! :)

You're very similar to me. I struggled to come up with a name, which is why I'm stuck with one that's really unoriginal, haha. I also suck at design and scheduling, two things I always say I'm going to work on and never do. I procrastinate over blog posts so much, I really should work on that.

Haha I want to change everything about my blog too. But, if it helps, I love your blog and think you picked a great name! :)

    1. Awww Charnell, I LOVE your blog! I found your blog shortly after I started myself, and you were one of the first people to make me feel welcomed into the community. THANK YOU so much for that!

Some days I can be really focused... but most of the time, I'm so easily distracted! I really do need to work on it, but for 2015, I'm going to be a bit more relaxed about it, and not stress too much. (Well, I'll try and not stress about it too much!)
