Top 10 New-to-Me Authors I Read in 2014

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme run by The Broke and the Bookish, and the topic this week is our Top 10 New-to-Me Authors we read in 2014.

My favourite author list expanded quite a bit this year! I would have had no problems completing a top 20 list, so I had to be a little picker than normal. To help me stick to 10, I chose the authors I would add to my auto-buy authors list. Heck, I’ve already marked A Court of Thorns and Roses and Fairest on my calendar and pre-ordered Ensnared… (Not that I’m addicted or anything *cough*)

My list is in no particular order, and links below the images are to each authors Goodreads page.

Sarah J. Maas -- A.G. Howard -- Marissa Meyer

I’m so glad that I took a chance on Throne of Glass, Splintered and Scarlet (and the sequels!) this year. The hype surrounding these books is HUGE, and I was so apprehensive to start them. Now, I wish I had read them sooner! I loved each one a little more than the last, and they’re all amongst my all-time favourite reads. And it’s not just the books and their authors: I love the characters as well, and they’ve become my new favourites, too! Morpheus, Alyssa, Celaena, Chaol, Dorian, Cinder, Scarlet, Iko, Wolf… You HAVE to try these books if you haven’t! I highly, HIGHLY recommend them.

Stacey Rourke -- Cynthia Hand -- J.K. Rowling -- Kelly Creagh

Jenny Colgan -- Morgan Matson -- Karen Akins

Yes, you read that right. J.K. Rowling. I’m EXTREMELY late to the Harry Potter world, but better late than never! I can’t wait to read the rest of the Harry Potter series, and I have the rest of the books, but I’m going to take my time. I loved Nevermore and Crane, and I can’t wait to continue on with the next. I started and completed the Unearthly trilogy this year, and I really enjoyed it. Since I read Angelfall, I didn’t think a series featuring angels would be able to hold my interest, and I’m so glad I tried the Unearthly books. While it doesn’t quite beat Angelfall, I still loved the series - and the way it ended!. I read two Jenny Colgan books this year – The Loveliest Chocolate Shop in Paris and Little Beach Street Bakery – and I was so surprised that I enjoyed it so much more than I was expecting. Loop was such a fun read, and it’s another series I can’t wait to continue on with.

What do you think of my list? Who made it onto your new favourite authors list this year?

Thanks for reading! Leave a link to your TTT post, if you like.

I've actually never read the Unearthly trilogy, because I don't know? AND YAY HARRY POTTER. At least you're reading the series now!

  5. OOoh nice! I LOVE Cynthia Hand's Unearthly trilogy! Not sure her next release is for me, as it sounds more contemporary and those are definitely not my kind of read. Still loved her first trilogy though!

I gave Marissa Meyer a second chance this year and was totally not disappointed! Loved Scarlet and Cress!! And naturally gotta love J.K. Rowling!

I read ToG and sadly it wasn't for me, but I am ever so eager for Sarah's next series!! And I still need to read Splintered as I have both books!

    Here's my Tuesday Post

    Have a GREAT day!

    1. I have seen Cynthia Hand's new book around! I'm curious about it, but I don't read contemporary all that often - fantasy is definitely my go-to genre :D Definitely read the Splintered series, I really hope you like them, Jessica! I'm so excited for Ensnared, hopefully it'll be an epic conclusion.

  7. I've had several bloggers recommend Sarah Maas to me, I may have to read them at some point. The hype must be there for a reason! :) Another author I discovered this year was Cat Patrick- I do want to read more of her stuff.

    1. I highly recommend her Throne of Glass series (but then again, I'm slightly biased, as I absolutely ADORE them :D) Honestly, I kept putting off the series thinking it couldn't possibly live up to all the praise and love it gets. I'm so glad I took the chance, it's become one of my fav series :D

  9. I love that JK was new to you this year. And I love Marissa Meyer and Morgan Matson as well. I plan on starting Sarah Maas soon and Cynthia Hand sometime when I catch up a little with all the others I want to read soon. I love discovering new authors as it often opens up amazing back catalogues too.
